Frequently asked questions

When are Sunday roasts served?

Most of these venues serve roasts on Sunday only, usually from midday to mid-afternoon, so check each venue's times on its card. Some run later: The Harwood Arms serves all day until 8.15pm, Blacklock Canary Wharf takes its last seating at 8pm, The Selkirk serves until 9pm and The Mall Tavern until 10.30pm. Guanabana serves its Island Roast on Saturdays as well as Sundays.

Do I need to book?

For the best-known roasts, yes. The Harwood Arms takes bookings a couple of months ahead, and the Canton Arms' lamb shoulder for five sells out quickly. At The Red Lion & Sun, a whole suckling pig has to be ordered in advance.

Where can I find an unusual roast?

The Tamil Crown in Angel serves an Indian roast, Guanabana in Kentish Town does a halal jerk roast, and Ling Ling's at Godet adds Cantonese flavours such as miso gravy. LD's Kitchen at Big Red is fully vegan, Cue Point does an Afghan-Texan barbecue roast, The Macbeth offers piri-piri roast chicken, and Buster Mantis mixes Jamaican and British Sunday lunch.

Is there a roast for vegetarians or vegans?

Yes. LD's Kitchen's roast is entirely plant-based, and several pubs have a vegetarian main, such as Fallow's roast maitake mushroom and The Parakeet's squash wellington.
