Meeting a mate is complicated enough without a dog doing interpretive dance at the end of the lead. Do you leave them at home, or bring them along and spend the journey wondering whether 'dog-friendly' means 'genuinely welcome' or 'tolerated, grudgingly, in the bit of garden nearest the bins'?

That's the knot FairWhere is built to untie. We judge whole journeys rather than the midpoint, then go hunting for pubs where dogs aren't merely permitted but actively courted — water bowls on the floor, a jar of biscuits behind the bar, a fire to flop in front of.
To make the cut, a pub had to be properly dog-welcoming indoors (not just the garden), good enough that the humans want to stay too, easy to reach from a station, and near a park, heath, common or river. We've spread them across North, East, South, West and Central London, and checked every one is still pulling pints in 2026.
Here they keep the biscuits at nose height and nobody blinks when I claim the best seat by the fire. Ten out of ten. Would drool again.

Gastropub
The Borough
All vintage tiles, mismatched chairs and gentle Bermondsey Street cool, the Garrison is the gastropub you take someone you'd like to impress without looking like you're trying too hard. The kitchen sends out food far smarter than the salvaged-furniture setting lets on, and dogs are ushered in like minor celebrities. Meet here for a long, low-lit lunch that drifts into evening. Charming quirk: there's a titchy private room hidden in the old cellar, though your dog will lobby hard for a people-watching seat by the front window instead.
