Romance is a numbers game, and the first number that matters is the one on the departures board. Most first-date advice frets about what to wear and skips the bit that actually sinks the evening: the getting there and, worse, the getting home.

FairWhere does the fairer maths. We weigh up whole journeys, including the trip home at 11pm. A good first date shouldn't sentence anyone to a 90-minute limp across three zones.
So we hunted for places worth the trek: bar-led but varied, close to stations you can both genuinely reach, and interesting enough that the conversation more or less writes itself — tube carriages, bookshelves that swing open, a detective agency. We've woven in alcohol-free and activity-led options too. Everything's well-reviewed and spread across the zones so nobody's quietly taking one for the team.
A great first date is 40% chemistry and 60% not missing the last train. FairWhere finally gets the ratio right.

Experience/Activity
Greenwich
London's original cat café pairs a proper afternoon tea with a dozen or so resident rescue cats who wander, doze and occasionally deign to sit on you. Booking a slot is essential, and there is a wonderful built-in conversational safety net: when talk stalls, a cat inevitably does something ridiculous. It is warm, low-key and entirely teetotal, feline chaos with a side of scones. A first date here reveals plenty, chiefly whether your companion is, deep down, a cat person or a monster.
