Romance is a numbers game, and the first number that matters is the one on the departures board. Most first-date advice frets about what to wear and skips the bit that actually sinks the evening: the getting there and, worse, the getting home.

FairWhere does the fairer maths. We weigh up whole journeys, including the trip home at 11pm. A good first date shouldn't sentence anyone to a 90-minute limp across three zones.
So we hunted for places worth the trek: bar-led but varied, close to stations you can both genuinely reach, and interesting enough that the conversation more or less writes itself — tube carriages, bookshelves that swing open, a detective agency. We've woven in alcohol-free and activity-led options too. Everything's well-reviewed and spread across the zones so nobody's quietly taking one for the team.
A great first date is 40% chemistry and 60% not missing the last train. FairWhere finally gets the ratio right.

Cocktail/Speakeasy Bar
Tower Hamlets
Squeezed into the old stockroom of a former tailor's, Discount Suit Company keeps the name and the tight-quarters charm - a narrow, brick-lined den where Northern Soul plays and the bartenders plainly know their craft. It's snug to the point of enforced closeness, which does a first date's job for it, and the drinks punch well above the modest surroundings. There's a mezzanine if you want a fraction more elbow room. Easy to reach and easy to like, it proves you don't need a gimmick when the room and the records do the work.
