Why this Thames stretch for a walk and a pint
The durable plan is simple: Hammersmith Bridge, Chiswick Mall, the Fuller's brewery frontage, then the Strand-on-the-Green pub row. Walk west for City Barge and Bull's Head, or stay near the bridge for The Dove and Blue Anchor.
Near Strand the lower path can get wet at high tide. Check conditions before you promise a full waterside stretch. In autumn the evenings cool quickly and dusk comes earlier, so start with enough light for the return. Dogs are allowed on the path, but it is shared and narrow in places. Open House Festival London runs 12 to 20 September 2026 (the 35th edition). This stretch sits between Hammersmith and Chiswick riverside buildings people often visit that week. Open City's weekend clustering puts Hammersmith and Fulham and Hounslow (Chiswick) on the first weekend, 12 to 13 September.
